Hey Josh, What do you do when your passion feels like it has turned into a huge burdon but you still know what you are doing is your purpose in life?

Joejoe would it help to point out that without suffering there would be no compassion? my line haha. See I agree with Josh a lot on this topic but I personally also believe (you don’t have to listen to me) that you can’t always go after what YOU want in life as much as going after what God has planned FOR you. I don’t know what religious backround you come from but I’m Christian (Roman Catholic) and I’m pretty into it cuz it’s fun. I have a lot of friends who are into it too. And we all follow the belief that God has planned out our lives for us and it’s our purpose to find what that is. I know maybe like the purpose at first sounds crazy or weird like how can I possibly ever be happy doing THAT with my life? But you do know (like Josh said) that when you are happy doing it, that that’s where you’re ment to be. I’m not saying like happy like oh I just got a new ipod I’m so exited and happy to have it MAYBE that means I’m supposed to work at an Apple store when I’m old enough. HAH! no. I mean like REALLY internally happy like you find joy that you didn’t think existed. And I have MET people who have this. And you can really tell that they love what they’re doing and couldn’t have done it without God. But here’s the thing.
WITHOUT SUFFERING THERE WOULD BE NO COMPASSION.
Meaning, you’re still gonna suffer…sorry but nobody stops suffering even when they have their dream come true. Because what would life be without suffering? I’ll tell you we’d all be spoiled bratts ahahaha. See when you go through pain and suffering you build up wisdom and strength from that. And that wisdom is what gives you #1 the common sense it takes to be someones friend and #2 the understanding it takes to BE THERE for them when THEY’RE the ones suffering. If YOU don’t suffer than how can you possibly relate to someone or know how to help someone or just be there for someone when THEY’RE the ones hurting? So the suffering gives us wisdom and understanding and we need that to be a friend. The strength that we get from suffering is what makes us STRONG enough to be a friend. (I’m REALLY hoping you’ve noticed by now otherwise you need help haha) that friendship isn’t a walk in the park all the time. Especially for teenage girls cuz we’re so mean haha. It’s like one day you love them so much and the next you just wanna kinda kill them…hopefully not literally but the point is you really need strength to have a relationship. Your enemy today your best friend tomorrow. It takes strength to be nice to people you think you hate lol. But where I’m going with this is (as emo as this is gonna sound) suffering is good. You can;t go anywhere in life if it’s just easy the whole way through. You are still gonna have pains when you have the purpose you were ment to have but the people I’ve met who have their purpose, who found their joy, it’s like they suffer, they know they’re suffering but they have happiness inside. It’s awesome.
Anyway those are my beliefs that you don;t have to agree with but I just though I’d have a go hahaha.
That was the longest comment I’ve ever posted on anything in my life.

Janie, Great comment. I agree with you 100%. I have been a youth minister for almost 10 years now. It is something I love and I know its my purpose in live. It just seems as the years go by it gets harder and harder to deal with so many things taking place with our young people in America. I try really hard to think positive about everything but after awhile it knocks me down. I guess the question im trying to ask is can your purpose in life change? Can something you love doing become so much of a burdon that its best we give up on it?

Okay, I couldn’t help but kind of hop in the covnersations that are going on here.
First, Danielle, rock on. “The purpose of life is a life of purpose.”So, awesome question. Sweetness.
And Josh, totally totally TOTALLY awesome, and I’m glad you decided to answer her question, because I was very excited to get your answer! (BTW, I am on a mission to be the biggest Twilighter ever…JK. But that was awesome)
Janey, I *love* writing super long comments, and I’m glad I’m not the only one!
I also agree with you. In just about everything you said. I did especially love your saying, “without suffering there would be no compassion.” love it.
And Joejoe, no your purpose in life cannot change. BUT you could’ve found your really purpose. You see what I’m saying? So you never lose what you know you’re meant to do, but you only lose what you’re not supposed to be. Giving up on something is really easy to do, and fighting through it is harder. In life, the workout schedule you want to have if your choice. And that being said, you can choose to enjoy it, or not. It’s all you.

Hailey, I see what you are saying. I guess “change” is not the right word for me to use. I think “evolve” might be a better word. I see my purpose evolving into something new and differnt. Though this new thing still falls into the “ministry” category its not youth ministry. I guess the thought of not doing youth ministry scares me a little. Josh’s video just caused me to really start thinking about my purpose and I apprecate your comment and help.

Joejoe I do believe that one purpose can form another just like you were saying. Like your journey to find your purpose may not be over. What you’re doing right now might just be a path towards your real purpose though I can’t tell you whether to give up on it or not seeing as it’s not my place to do so.

Hey you guys!!! wow, ciara, i think you should totally think about inspirational speaking, b/c im rele inspired by ur ginormous comment…which was perty amaZAzing. lol jk but seriously. And josh ur answer was perty psychadelic also…lol i heart that word… and i too am roman catholic. it is fun, but it can be slightly confusing. There are so many things that are considered sins in our religion that i never know if i’m actually doing them! But i guess that is how a lot of people feel. anyway, i just rele wanted to tell everyone, including josh and danielle, that they all gave great advice. i’m struggling with my career choice also. I’m very passionate about art, b/c i love the feeling of a job well done, and you know that you are your worst critic. but anyway, i’m rele considering interior design. but i’m not sure if that is b/c of my strange need to be in control or not…lol jk. But above all i want to be an actress. i found this passion in grade school, but my parents say that it will most likely never happen so i should get my degree in something else…so thats wat im doing. Ive found that the only thing that ive always been able to memorize very easily is lines. I can’t remember anything, and when i found out that i could remember lines with so little effort, i knew that was what i wanted to do. and the best part is, if i would become famous, i would stand for everything, that most stars arent. like i would want to be a role model for everyone, tho im sure there will always be those who wont like me either way. but anyway, all of the advice was perty great. just thought i should let you know!!! Thanx

Ciara;
Its totally fun! And don’t worry Ashton, I say go after your dreams and follow your heart! I am struggling with career choices too. Well, Im only 13 but I still am struggling! LOL This is what I want to do:I really want to be a meteorologist on the Weather Channel, a professional dancer, a 2nd grade teacher, a cake decorator, or a writer. I know, it sounds totally unachievable, but I really do want to do all of these things! Hahahaha
P.S. Ciara, how do get that picture to appear on you comment?

Janey at the bottom of the page where you type in your comments, right underneath the “submit comment” button there should be small letters that say “If you’s like a picture to show up by your name, get a gravatar.” (the “get a gravatar” part should be underlined and you should be able to click on it) once you click that, you’ll know what to do. hope I could help!

joejoe,
I think that your purpose (Psalm 150:6) fundamentally remains the same, but your expression of it can change over time. It’s said that your job should be the intersection of the world’s needs with your passion—it would stand then, that if your passions change, then so may your career.

Joejoe,
I’ve been interested to see what everyone said to your comments…I don’t have any magical solutions, obviously, but I did want to comment that I think being a youth minister is one of the most emotionally difficult jobs out there, and I can’t imagine how anyone could retain his or her passion for it after ten years.

haha…lol nice josh…brilliant point…lol…so my story of hope…i go to this theater camp during the summer and my very first year, i was in 7th grade i believe, and by some miracle, i got the lead. MY FIRST YEAR AND I GOT THE LEAD!!!! i’d never been in an actual play before and i got the lead…i still psych out about it from time to time- lol jk…so anyway, i had i think over 100 lines, and it being my first year that was rele cool…like there were people at the camp that had been going for over 10 yrs and i had gotten the lead! btw: the theater camp is only 2 weeks long and we go every weekday from like noon til five, so i only had 2 weeks to have it all remembered…idk, but this continuously reminds me that, if i could do that, and have a nearly perfect performance in 7th grade…maybe i could be an actress…but who knows? lol so there is my story…right about now u are prolly going, “why? why did i ask her to tell that story?” lol hahaha
well thats all for now! lol

Ok, so if you have something you have strong feelings for, but you’re afriad to take the leap and get in on it, how do you just go? I really believe my passion is to help people with disabilities learn to walk and function while missing limbs or from a wheelchair. It has sounded like an amazing and emotionally rewarding job to me for years. But I don’t know how to get there and not sound crazy by saying, “Ya, I want to teach amputees how to get around!” Please tell me you know what I’m saying. Comment if you have any ideas where i can start such a fulfilling career. Thank you!
