Last night I had the pleasure of speaking to students in Ohio at Kent State University… without ever leaving my office!
Before I joined the group via Video Skype, they watched my stand-up comedy movie about disability awareness, Laughing at Our Differences. Then I appeared on the screen and answered questions for about half an hour.
The students could walk up to the microphone …to ask me questions or text questions from their cell phones.
There was a webcam on stage so I could see everyone in the audience. It really felt like I was sitting on stage in front of them. It was pretty amazing!
The event was sponsored by Kent State’s Office of Disability Services. One way they promoted it was by playing a clip of the movie on the jumbotron at a home football game last month!
Anyway, I though it was a really cool event and I hope to do more like it in the future.

I did not hear your virtual speech, but I was at a disability inclusion conference at the department of labor and I saw you in a video. When I saw you, I grabbed my co-worker and exclaimed “that’s my bro’s best friend!” I’m Will’s sister if you have not caught on yet. Would you be interested in working with the Disability Inclusion Initiative at my office – Serve DC – The Mayor’s Office on Volunteerism? Also, feel free to tell me embarassing stories about my brother!
